Vietnam 1968

We Vietnam Vets dont like to talk about the war we fought, but one day had real meaning. After about 48 hours straight on the flight line I chose to crash outside the barracks on an old Army cot soaking up the sun and needed sleep. I heard something that sounded familiar and the Maine accent got my attention. There was Donny standing there asking one of the guys how to get to Flight Operations. He was taking a fellow soldier to catch an emergency flight. After he did so he came back and we spent time together. Notable, neither of us acted, talked, or had the young presence we did together at Union High. At 19 and 20 years old we were men, no longer boys. Decades later when we met at a school Reunion, we talked of that unspoken bond. We understood where many others could not fathom. Welcome back and Rest In Peace my old friend.
