Obituary for Talbot Cleber "Sonny" Cooley Jr.
Talbot (Sonny) C. Cooley, Jr. passed away peacefully in the morning of February 6, 2023 at his home in Washington. Sonny was born on October 26, 1951 in Augusta, Maine to Talbot C. Cooley Sr. and Lillian (Noyes) Cooley.
Sonny attended Union High School. He was self-employed for many years as Sonny’s Pit and Auto Repair, followed by 30 years in construction as a heavy equipment operator.
He loved restoring old cars and bringing them back to life and building street rods. He also was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing in his younger years, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at cookouts and time spent around the firepit.
Sonny is survived by his wife Deborah E. Cooley of Washington, his son Gregory S. Cooley and wife Laura J. of Washington, his daughter Karen A. Kunesh and husband Kevin A. of Lexington, South Carolina; granddaughter Ashlee R. Cooley and partner Trevor Miller of Liberty, grandson Johnathan T. Cooley and partner Racheal Talgo of Washington, grandson Kolby T. Kunesh of Lexington, SC, sister Sandra Merwin and husband Mark of Jefferson, brother Alan S. Cooley and partner Tracie Ghalayini of Jefferson, uncle Earl Creamer of Washington, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private family graveside service will be held in the spring at the Shepherd Cemetery in Jefferson.
