Obituary for Samuel W. Collins III

Samuel W. Collins died August 14, 2022 after a brief stay at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine.

Born in Weymouth, MA he was a long-time resident of Abington and Norwell before moving to Waldoboro, Maine six years ago. He graduated from Abington High School, Tilton School in Tilton, NH and Nasson College, Springvale, ME. He served in the US Coast Guard Reserves. Soon thereafter he worked for John Hancock Insurance Company of Boston in the underwriting department. He then worked for Dobson Distributors in Abington, MA as an Inventory Manager until his retirement. He was an avid reader with an extensive library, an unabashed Anglophile, a collector of many fine antiques and a lover of all things Dachshund.

He is predeceased by his father, Richard B. Collins; mother, Elizabeth W. (Collins) Belyea; step-father, Arthur S. Belyea; step-brother, Brinton Belyea; and his life partner, Dr. C. David Thompson.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Charles W. and Sharon Collins of Abington, MA and his nephew, Richard A. Collins of Bend, OR; sister-in-law, Marilyn Belyea of Newport News, VA; niece, Robin Belyea of Greensboro, NC; nephew, Dana Belyea and family of Marietta, GA; cousins Susan Webber of Northborough, Suzanne Anderson and family of Plymouth and Kimberly Villegas and family of Holden and other extended family around the United States.

He will be missed by his good friend and neighbor, Phillip Applin from Waldoboro and everyone at
Moody’s Diner, as well as the folks at the Waldoboro branch of First National Bank.

There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held on September 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Webber Collins family plot in the Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers make a donation to your favorite charity in his memory or The Sussman House in Rockport, Maine.
