Obituary for Loren Kyle Hoffman

Loren Hoffman of Waldoboro passed peacefully the evening of July 26 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a lengthy illness. Her loving sister Lisa Apperman and devoted daughter-in-law Allison Brown were by her side.

Loren was born in Newark, NJ to Arthur and Erna Hoffman on September 23, 1949. After residing with her maternal grandparents Max and Elsie Friedrich for five years in Newark, the Hoffman family moved to Westfield, NJ where Loren lived until she went to college.

Loren graduated from Westfield Senior High School in 1967 and earned a BFA in Advertising Art and Graphic Design from Moore College of Art and Design in 1971.

Following her graduation she worked at several small agencies in the Hartford, Connecticut and West Springfield, Massachusetts area. Starting in 1984 she started as a staff artist at Hartford Life Insurance Company in Simsbury, Connecticut and ended her career there as Art Director in 2001. Following that she worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Loren never really retired from the graphic arts field. Until her death she was still doing layout and graphics for The Naturalists’ Club Newsletter published by the Science Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts and had other free-lance projects ongoing for others as well.

Loren won numerous awards and accolades throughout her life starting high school. During her professional career she earned seven Best in Show Awards and five Awards of Excellence from the Life Communicator Association.

Throughout her life Loren was renowned for her lively sense of humor, quick wit, and sharp intelligence, punctuated by her brilliant smile and gorgeous blue eyes.

An avid and compassionate animal lover, Loren opened her heart and home over the years to 17 cats and 5 dogs. She is dearly missed by goldendoodle Maddie and Huey, a 15-year-old cat she adopted just six weeks ago.

She is survived by the love of her life, Donald Brown, to whom she was married for 12 years, her sister Lisa Apperman of Corvallis, Oregon, her son and daughter-in-law Scott and Allison Brown of Dresden, Maine and their daughters, Lindsay and Sarah and her son-in-law Eric Brown of Warre, New Hampshire.

Memorial contributions may be sent in her name to the Animal Humane Society of your choice.
