Obituary for Inez D. Wincapaw (Simmons)

Inez D. Wincapaw, 75, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side on November 15, 2023. Inez was born in Friendship on October 15, 1948, to Lester A. Simmons and Winifred (Achorn) Simmons.

Inez attended local schools and graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1967. Inez married David B. Wincapaw in November of 1967.

Inez worked for Sylvania in Waldoboro for 35 years.

Inez left a legacy of quilting. She made quilts for her family members, friends, and community members. Inez enjoyed being with her family, her grandchildren were her pride and joy. The church and her strong faith defined her as a person. She said “God, Family and Quilting”

Inez was on the board for Big Brothers, Big Sisters and was a volunteer at the Miller School mentoring program. She was also a Girl Scout leader when her daughters Lisa and Angela were young and was an active member in the Advent Christian Church in Friendship.

Inez was predeceased by her parents.

Inez is survived by her husband David Wincapaw of Waldoboro, daughters Lisa Maguire and husband Richard of Waldoboro, Angela Gilbert of Lowell and Nettie Simmons of Swanville, brother Edward Simmons and wife Michelle of Bowdoinham, sisters Emily Glidden and husband Ronald of Waldoboro and Betty Lou Armstrong and husband Scott of Englewood, Florida along with her aunt and uncle Arnold and Alcy Achorn of Waldoboro. Inez is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

There will be burial in Sweetland Cemetery in Waldoboro on November 20, 2023, and a time of visitation from 1-2pm at the Advent Christian Church in Friendship on November 20, 2023, with a memorial service starting at 2pm
