Obituary for Freda I Hand

Freda I. Hand, 87, of Rockport, passed away on March 6th, with family by her side.

Born in Warren, in 1935 to David and Alice Hill, she graduated from Warren High School in 1953 as class valedictorian. She went on to study nursing at Maine Medical Center and her nursing career began in 1956, working as an RN in Florida, Texas and returning to Maine in 1965.

Freda married Walter S. Hand in 1958 and went on to have two children. She dedicated her life to her profession and her family, and after retiring in 2000, enjoyed reading her newspapers, doing crosswords and word searches.

Freda is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Hand and her husband John Cooke of Brunswick, her son, Stephen Hand and his wife Amy of Lincolnville, along with her grandsons Stephen and Zachary Hand. She is also survived by her brother Arnold Hill of Warren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Walter S. Hand, her parents Alice and David Hill, and her sister Sylvia York.

Freda is being cared for by Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro, at 949 Main Street. Visiting hours are planned for 5 – 7 PM on Monday, March 13th with a funeral service at 1 PM on Tuesday, March 14th.
