Obituary for Wayne S. Havener

Wayne Stillman Havener passed away on March 10, 2023.

He was born November 17, 1929, to Stillman Havener and Edith (Winchenbach) Havener.
He attended Friendship School until 10th grade and then he joined the Coast Guard in 1947 serving until 1950 mostly on the Buoy Tender “Storis” making trips to Greenland.

Wayne married Kay Maybelle Davis on November 11, 1949.

Wayne was a life-long fisherman tending to his traps up until he was 87 years old. Many of his grandchildren would go out with him as sternmen. “To him a bad day on the lobster boat was better than a good day elsewhere.”

He loved baseball and the Red Sox. He played many years in the Knox/Lincoln Twilight League. He never missed his sons’ games through high school. He was a member and faithful attendee of the Friendship Advent Christian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Kay Davis Havener; his 3 sons Gary Wayne Havener and wife Patricia of Seffner, FL, Gregory Daniel Havener and wife Patricia of Friendship and Keith Andrew Havener of Seffner, FL; 6 grandchildren Stephanie Scogland, Andrew (Cecily) Havener, Christopher (Carly) Havener, Emily (Craig) Spencer, Benjamin (Megan) Havener and James (Katie) Havener; 15 great grandchildren, Jacob Scogland, Isabelle Scogland, Stillman Havener, Viola Havener, Emma Havener, Madison Havener, Taylor Havener, Ruth Havener, Donald Havener, Grace Havener, Jack Havener, Mary Havener, Moses Havener, Haven Spencer and Walton Spencer.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 5-7 pm at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main Street, in Waldoboro. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Friendship Advent Christian Church, in Friendship. Burial will be held in the spring at Harbor Cemetery.
