Obituary for Julia W "Julie" Moore

Julia (Julie) Woodruff Moore passed away at her Boothbay Harbor home on 7 March, 2023 at the age of 67. She was a potter for 32 years and in 2016 achieved her lifelong dream of having her own studio/shop in Boothbay Harbor, ME. She was a 1973 graduate of Arlington High School in Lagrange, NY, a 1975 graduate of Keystone College in Factoryville, PA, and a 1987 graduate of Georgetown University’s Ophthalmic Technology program and worked in that field for 18 years in the Northern Virginia area.

Julie was a beautiful soul, loving wife, Mother, Grandmother, extremely talented self-taught potter, loyal friend and a joy for all those who came to know her. She was a lifelong cat lover and cat foster Mom, who as a young girl when told by her parents “no more cats!”, brought home a cat she named “Dog” which was reluctantly accepted by her parents. She was also a beekeeper for many years and a skillful yard sale/thrift store bargain hunter when she didn’t have her hands deep in clay which over the years was nearly all the time.

In 1986 while a student at Georgetown, she answered an “In Search Of” personal ad in Washingtonian magazine that her eventual husband Ken placed. How she came to respond is a truly funny, serendipitous story involving faulty brakes on her car and the magazine throw across the lawn at her. She described herself as “down to earth, straightforward, sincere, devoted, romantic, independent, but scared sometimes with a good (sometimes weird) sense of humor”. Ken immediately fell in love with this amazing, energetic, beautiful, super smart woman who was totally dedicated to bettering herself through education and supporting her two young children! They married in 1987 and had a wonderful life together raising their four boys, enjoying their families, traveling the world with friends and taking many bird watching walks where she tried unsuccessfully to educate Ken about bird calls.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Kenneth (Ken) A. Moore (King George, VA and Boothbay Harbor ME), son Jeremy D. Meyers (East Boothbay, ME), son David A. Meyers (Charlottesville VA), step-son Christopher J. Moore (Russell Springs, KY), step-son Michael K. Moore (Sacramento, CA), brother Michael L. Woodruff (Tucson, AZ), brother Bradley A. Woodruff (Victoria, BC), two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Allen G. Woodruff and Caroline (Wilcox)Woodruff.

Friends and family are invited to visit 5-6:30 pm Thursday March 16 at the Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, ME 04537. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
