Obituary for William "Bill" Trafton

Bill passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022 athome surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 22, 1933 in Gardiner Maine, the son of Josephine (Smith) and Lorimer Trafton. His childhood was spent on the family farm where he developed a lifelong love of nature.

Bill graduated from Gardiner High School and then attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He served in the Navy during the Korean war aboard ship as an electrician. Bill was a Manufacturer’s Representative for many years in Massachusetts and then retired to Boothbay, Maine in 2013 at the age of 80.

In 1984, he married the love of his life and best friend Kathie at Pemaquid Point. They enjoyed vacationing and visited Europe and Ireland as well as New Orleans for several Jazzfests. Bill and Kathie were avid gardeners and spent much of their leisure time landscaping and creating beautiful gardens at their home.

When not in the garden, Bill could be found reading, doing a jigsaw puzzle, completing his Cross Sums puzzles, listening to jazz, skiing, boating and enjoying his cats. He was also the ultimate handyman who often did all kinds of electrical work for friends and family.

A kind and gentle man, Bill’s dry sense of humor and unassuming demeanor endeared him to his many friends and neighbors.

Bill was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Lorimer Trafton and Frederick Trafton. Surviving are his loving wife, Kathleen; his daughter Deborah Trudo and her husband Thomas; and step-daughter, Kara Kolodziej. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews residing in Massachusetts and Maine.

At this time, there will be no services. A celebration of life will be held in the summer with family and friends.
