Obituary for Alfred J "Sonny" Starr
Alfred “Sonny” Starr, 88, passed away peacefully at Pen Bay Medical Center on December 26th, from complications of pneumonia.
He married Carole Clarke on June 15, 1957 and they were married for 64 years.
He was born on May 30, 1933 to Alfred and Aritta (Knowlton) Starr in Rockland. He grew up in Thomaston and attended schools there from 1st grade through his senior year, graduating in 1952.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955 with the rank of Corporal.
He worked for Knowlton Moving Service before being drafted and upon discharge went to work at Dragon Cement Plant in Thomaston until his retirement in 1983. After that he worked for George C. Hall & Sons for 18 years.
He was a 50-year member of St. George Lodge of Masons in Warren, and a member of Ivy Chapter #16 OES in Warren where he served as Worthy Patron several times. He was also Grand Warder of the Grand Chapter of Maine. He attended the Second Congregational Church of Warren and was a member of the Riverside Couples Club.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Priscilla Kaler, father-in-in-law Ralph Clarke and brothers-in-law Harry Collins and Bernard Bishop.
He is survived by his wife Carole Starr of Warren, sons David Starr and his wife Lisa of Warren, Kenneth “Skip” Starr and his fiancé Tonya Madden of Union; Alfred Divine and his wife Kathy of Chatham, Virginia; sister Diane Brooks and her husband Michael of Warren; grandchildren David “Dusty” Starr and wife Rachel of Waldoboro, Michael Starr, Zachary Starr, Brandon Starr, Jaiden Starr and Jamieson Frost, 6 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Priscilla Bishop and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours, but a memorial service will be held at Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro at 11am, Saturday January 8th, 2022.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Warren Masonic Hall following the service for a celebration of Alfred’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
